More evidence of fraud in 2nd Peter: Noah didn't preach, per Genesis 6
by adamah inthanks for reading the 3-part series on the contradictory characterization of lot in genesis vs 2nd peter, analyzing genesis 19 and comparing it to 2nd peter 2. in the articles, i took a step-by-step approach to show how 2nd peter's declaring lot as "righteous" was exactly the opposite goal of the author of genesis, since the point of the story is how unrighteous lot was saved not due to his righteousness, but on behalf of his righteous uncle abraham (the star of the torah).. of course, the book of 2nd peter is widely acknowledged by nt scholars to be a fraudulent work, written under a pseudonymous (fake) name in order to 'patch up' some loose ends in the torah, likely to support then-blossoming doctines of christianity.
of particular interest to ex-jws is that one intent was to support the duty to warn others of the coming end of days, including the jw's beloved scripture, matt 28:19, that justifies their preaching work: "go thereforth and make disciples...." the only support for the claim that noah preached before the flood is found in 2nd peter, so it's a dubious claim.. in the latest article, i examine the flood account in genesis 6, showing how god had already condemned mankind even before he offered the covenant agreement to noah, so there's absolutely no reason for noah to be a "preacher of righteousness", as 2nd peter claims, since god's judgment had already been passed, and death sentence had been handed down.. .

Maybe Noah preached to the animals in order to find which ones (er, I mean "which twos") were repentant and Ark-worthy...?

Bethel Layoffs: Know anyone (especially long-timers) who were laid off?
by Black Man inand what are they doing now?.
-
Billy the Ex-Bethelite
I really didn't keep in touch. I left shortly before the big layoffs began. The last I heard was rather depressing. The only one I knew personally was because he moved to a neighboring congregation. He was stuck in a crappy, low-paying job. It helped by parents understand the value of me returning to college.
I've considered paying a visit to my old department sometime after I've graduated to see what's left.

Atheism and the delusion of meaning
by Laika inin the movie annie hall, written by woody allen, as a young boy, alvy's mother, takes him to see a doctor as he appears to be dealing with some kind of depression.
when the doctor asks alvy what's up, alvy explains that he just found out the universe is expanding, everything will spread out and go cold and die, therefore nothing he does matters, so he is not going to do anything anymore.
most people might see this as a joke, but i think woody is trying to make a serious point.. the point here is about meaning.

I used to fear that my life would become meaningless if I left WT and their promise of a panda-petting paradise. After all, WT had told me that my life would be empty and meaningless if it weren't for the Bible and their interpretation of it.
Quite the contrary, once I acknowledged that I don't have all the answers, I became less depressed. My life has more meaning because I've been able to walk away from the empty promises and ugly threats of WT. I found there was a choice between:
1) sitting around crying about how little I was and how brief my life might be, or
2) I could learn things, enjoy life, and make the best of whatever time I have.I chose the later... which means I should stop posting here tonight and either go out and have fun, or do some studying for my student research project.
Keeping in mind that I'd rather not spend the evening pondering the futility of life, any suggestions on how a single dude could have some fun in a big city?

The Watchtower Writers need to answer this question "Atheism, not religion, is the real force behind the mass murders of history!"
by ÁrbolesdeArabia inhow come the watchtower will not side with christendom and address a topic like the following?
what if christendom had allowed islam to spread it's plunder into europe without a fight and great force?
i direct your attention to islam spreading not as a distraction, but to ask the question most atheist have asked me when we talk of this subject.

Evidently, the Catholic Church has been atheistic all this time.
"History revisionism is in fashion these days...."

Threads like this become interesting when posters like Prime come from out of nowhere to bring in the smoke-and-mirrors to try to hide the fact that WT has established a history of protecting pedophiles and victimizing children.

" the definitive explanation on... how life arrived "
Like I stated in the other thread, unless this book explains how an intelligent designer came into existance from nothing, this book doesn't answer any question about how life began.
Proving the existence of an all-powerful, all-knowing, never-speaking intelligent FSM involves much more than trying to cast doubt on Darwin.

Evolution is Crap, there I said it!
by Crazyguy inok i started another thread and every one jumped on me because i was trying to take the theory of evolution out of the mix and most here seem to believe in it so i will just say it.

Thanks for posting those links cofty and cantleave. Meyer's book will join the stack of books peddled to make money off fundies.
" Now everyone can read for themselves the other side (correct side) on the origin of life. "
Unless there is a chapter explaining exactly how there was some "intelligent designer" that originated from nothing, this book doesn't explain any origin of life.

When my dad got back from it, he had nothing to say about it other than mention all the people that asked about me. And he was there for a "Family Night," but had nothing to say about that either. He seemed really unimpressed with the "school."
